Dr. Toufiq M. Seraj was an engineer and planner by profession. He had extensive professional experience in Real Estate Development, Construction, Management and Planning Consultancy. As a recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship, he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Civic Design from the University of Liverpool, UK. He formerly held academic positions in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at BUET. He had wide range of publications in national and international journals. He had also published several books on Town Planning, Housing and Real Estate.
He was the Chairman of Seraj Foundation for Development (SFD) and Forum for Physical Development of Bangladesh (FPD). He was the former President of Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP). He was the President of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) for three consecutive terms (2000-2006). He was also affiliated with several professional and social organizations. Dr. Toufiq M. Seraj passed away on June 20, 2019. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy continues to inspire admirers around the world.
