About The Author

Masrufa Ayesha Nusrat

Masrufa Ayesha Nusrat, born and raised in Bangladesh, was educated at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, University of Dhaka and University of Nottingham in the UK. Celebration & Other Stories is her first book of translation, and has a number of other translations forthcoming. Translation for her has been a labour of love. She is Assistant Professor of English at East West University in Dhaka. A busy mother of a terrible three, she is also a connoisseur of fine arts, music and literature. She also enjoys travelling.

Celebration & Other Stories is a collection of fifteen Bangla short stories by five contemporary female authors from Bangladesh in English translation. Stories by Anwara Syed Haq, Husne Ara Shahed, Jharna Rahman, Nasreen Jahan and Papree Rahman mirror the social status, hidden psyche, magical existence, rural folklore and quintessential womanhood of Bangladeshi women. Their styles vary from simple straightforward narratives to complicated experiments.
