About Author:

Hasnat Abdul Hye was born in Kolkata in 1937. His parents, late Abul Fateh and late Ayesha Siddiqua hail from Kasbah, Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh.

Hasnat Abdul Hye studied economics at Dhaka University, University of Washington, London School of Economics and Development Studies at Cambridge University. He was a Visiting Fellow at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford and a Visiting Scholar Kyoto University.

Hasnat Abdul Hye started his career as a teacher in the Department of Economics, Dhaka University. He joined the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1965 and served at various places in former Pakistan and in Bangladesh. He retired as Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh in 2000.

During his career in public service, besides working in various ministries, he was Managing Director of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Chairman, Bangladesh Shilpo Rin Sangstha, Chairman, Industrial Promotion and Development Company (IPDC), Chairman, Basic Bank and Chairman, KAFCO.

Hasnat Abdul Hye has written books on rural poverty, land reform, local level planning, and integrated rural development and edited ‘Good Governance in South Asia’.

Hasnat Abdul Hye is a renowned writer of fiction and on aesthetics. He received Bangla Academy Award for fiction (1977) and was awarded Ekushey Padak by the government for his contribution to literature.

He lives in Dhaka with his son Dr. Shahed, daughter in law, Sabrina and grandson Sanjar.
