Bimal Guha (b.1952) is one of the leading poets of Bangladesh. He writes poems in myriad subjects inclusive of motherland, society, people, liberation war and love. He entered the literary arena in 1968 as a school student. Later he started to appear in different literary page of newspapers and magazines. He was awarded National Level Bangladesh Parishad Literary Award for poetry as a promising young poet in 1979 by the Government of Bangladesh, and honoured with many other awards later. His first book of poems was published in 1982, and then he transcends into newer perceptions from one volume to another. He made his readers captivated right from his first book, and his popularity became more pervading from his second volume. He has 23 books to his credit including 14 books of poems. Without following regular paths of his predecessors, Bimal Guha has created his own path. The imagery, simile, metaphors and symbols he applied in his poems are so very special and striking that they imply his speciality in creating individualistic style. About The Author

Bimal Guha

Bimal Guha was born on 27 October 1952 at village Bajalia of Chittagong district. He is the eldest son of Prasanna Kumar Guha and Manadabala Guha. Bimal had his early education in local school and college, and later in universities at home and abroad. He had his PhD in modern Bengali poetry from the University of Dhaka. He entered the literary arena in 1968 while a school student and is still continuing his literary activities. His first book of poems Ahongkar : Tomar Shabdo was published in 1982. He has published as many as 20 books to his credit including 12 books of poems. Bimal Guha was awarded Bangladesh Parishad National Literary Award for Poetry in 1979 by the Government of Bangladesh as a young poet; National Literary Award for Poetry in 1979 by Kingbodontir Amra, Dhaka; Bangabandhu Memorial Award in 2001; Nirnoy Shilpigosthi Gold Medal, Faridpur in 2008. He is also a PoetCelebrity of the Bangladesh Writers Club, Dhaka. Dr Guha now heads an administrative office of the University of Dhaka.

Kabir Chowdhury

Kabir Chowdhury is a well-known academic, essayist, translator, cultural worker and civil society activist. He was born in 1923 in Brahmanbaria district and died in December 2011 just before publication of the book. He was educated at the Universities of Dhaka, Minnesota and Southern California. He worked in several National and International organizations like Afro-Asian Writers Union, International Theatre Institute, UNESCO National Commission and Bangladesh Chapter of the World's Peace Council. He was the Director/Head of Bangla Academy from early 1969 to the middle of 1972. Later, he also worked as the Secretary, Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Sports, Government of Bangladesh. He was the Chairman of Bangla Academy until death. He taught at the University of Dhaka as a Professor of English Professor Kabir Chowdhury has written on world's famous writers and painters. He has written extensively on anti-fundamentalism, religious fanaticism and communalism and has over 250 books. For his contribution to education, literature and civil society movement he has received Bangla Academy Award; Ekushey Award; Independence Award; Bangabandhu National Award; Mohammad Nasiruddin Literary Award; Sher-e-Bangla Award and India's William Carey Award. In 1998 he was honoured as National Professor of Bangladesh.
