Some issues accept mortality and disappear from the public discourse while other issues decline to die and reappear at various times in different manners. This collection of essays addresses some of these issues, which have intrinsic values and are relevant to contemporaneous socio-political developments, particularly in Bangladesh. Undying Issues covers topics such as governance, secularism, the role of religion, militancy, intolerance, and Islamic education. This book critically interjects into the discussions about these topics, offer revisions to the dominant perspectives and attempts to reframe the dialogue.
Ali Riaz teaches political science at Illinois State University, USA where he holds the University Professor designation. He has previously taught at universities in Bangladesh and in the United Kingdom, and worked as a Broadcast Journalist at the BBC World Service in London. Riaz served as a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars at Washington D.C. in 2013. His recent publications include Lived Islam and Islamism in Bangladesh (2017) and Bangladesh: A Political History since Independence (2016).
