White Mughals

White Mughals is the love story of lovers James Achilles Kirkpatrick and Khair un-Nissa, two people belonging to diverse cultures and races at a time when India was under the colonial rule of the British. Their love transcended all the political, social and cultural barriers as James married Nissa and converted to Islam. But is this the happy ending of their story or there is a dark side to it is the theme of the story. Although White Mughals at the crux is a love story, there is more to it in the sense that it gives a detailed picture of the socio-political-cultural life in India in the late 18th and early 19th century. It is filled with interesting details as to how some of the British people in India imbibed a lot of our culture, our clothes and our language. and how because of the East meeting West and the consequent relationships between British men and Indian women, a new breed of Anglo-Indian community formed.
