Folktales of Bangladesh (Adorn)

Bangladesh is a land proverbially rich for its folk-literature. The folktales, ballads, songs, proverbs and riddles are the inherent treasures of the soil have an inherent worth of their own. A perusal of such stories in translation by persons who cannot read the original Bengali versions is likely to provide genuine pleasure to the readers irrespective of age, class or creed. For another, they can make possible comparative study of the folktales of other parts of the world, tales of other peoples in other land and may lead of interesting sociological, cultural and anthropological findings, or at least speculations. The joys and sorrows, the smiles and tears of everyday life of the common man as well as many legends of ancient times, fables, fairy and moral tales have found easy access into the various branches of our folk-literature. The present volume contains the English rendering of eight folktales which besides serving a useful purpose have an inherent works of their own.
