Globalisation and Cultural Transformations Among the Youth

Does globalization cause cultural transformation among the youth? This has been an overriding research question addressed in this book by a fusion of young and established scholars from Bangladesh. Students from higher education institutions — both public and private — come under the spotlight of individual chapters. Three major sub-themes emerged from the research findings and discussions of 11 chapters which include higher education and pedagogy; social media’s impact; and youth aspirations and perceptions. The findings and discussions reveal the multiplexity of dimensions that globalization has and the impact of these on the youth. A remarkable feature of the volume is the ‘nearness’ and the ‘lived-in’ experiences of the authors and the editors, with the issues under exploration. Their rootedness in the physical and cognitive space adds value to the reading of the issues. This volume’s main contributions lie in its emphasis on theory-driven and policy-relevant knowledge on the linkages between a rapidly changing global system and national cultural practices of the youth.
