South-East Bengal comprised of the ancient janapadas known as Vanga, Samatata and Harikela. This part of Bengal was a fairly well-defined geographical unit with a distinctive separate political entity and in turn, evolved its own economic zone and cultural ethos. After the fall of the imperial Guptas down to the advent of the Senas this region of Bengal formed a separate political entity and during this period many local dynasties flourished. But the ancient history of this area, which is now the core territory of independent Bangladesh, is presented very scantily in different existing works. This book is a humble attempt to reconstruct the chronological dynastic history of South-East Bengal. Many new materials have been incorporated in this book and the existing historical facts have been reviewed and reconstructed in their light. I hope that this book will quench the thirst and curiosity of scholars and general readers.
