This is a book that explores religion, its origin and its evolution. The author has written this book by primarily addressing American readers. He talks about how Americans are notably different from others nationals when it comes to their attitude and approach towards religion and this book is an attempt to understand those differences. jBreaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon is divided into three main parts, with the first one talking about a possible scientific analysis of religion along with an attempt of defining it. The second part is an elaborate discussion on the evolution of religion, which covers the roots and the births of different religions, along with how society and individuals were influenced by them in the early years. In the third and final part of the book, the author discusses the effects of religion in the current world. This section also debates on the connection between morality and religion. It asks if religion gives meaning to one's life and poses the question of what needs to be taught to the next generation about religion
