A gripping survey of the seventy momentous years of Indian history between 1861 and 1931, The Nehrus has established itself as the standard biography of Motilal Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru. It analyses Jawaharlal Nehru's role in the national movement after 1931, his relationship with Gandhi, and his contribution as India's first prime minister until his death in 1964. This edition contains a new preface where B.R. Nanda recounts his many meetings with Jawaharlal from 1959-when he was commissioned to write the book-to 1962 when he presented the book to the prime minister. The author's assessment of Jawaharlal Nehru, the man and the statesman, is a tour de force of acuity and brevity.
