Fundamentals of Model United Nations

The journey of university-based Model United Nations in Bangladesh was pioneered in the soils of the oldest and largest university of Bangladesh, University of Dhaka. A group of young students approached me when I was the Chair of the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, 2009-2012. It was a great moment when the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) finally kicked off its formal activity in 2011. I saw the excitement and dedication of the new members of DUMUNA who, indeed, created a history in Bangladesh. Although leading universities in the developed world started MUN movement in the 1950s, it took time to spread in other parts of the world. The importance of MUN is always felt as a platform for students to provide with the most effective way to learn complexity of international relations, international society and global order, focusing on issue awareness, diplomacy, leadership, and problem-solving ideas for humanity. The United Nations as the largest global body for debate and solution of global problems is the best organizational mechanism to simulate policy positions of nation-states as the central actors in global politics.
