High Tide High Time

My only identity is that I am a retired sailor. That is why I have dwelled a lot in my reminiscences about my naval career. To become Chief of the Navy during its formative stage, though because of prevailing circumstances yet was the greatest fulfillment in my naval career. Subsequently I was catapulted to various top managerial positions by virtue of being the Chief of the Navy and finally with a surging tide I wore the heavy cloak of office. So I thought 'High Tide-High Time' is an appropriate title of my autobiography._x000D_ _x000D_ While in high position I observed various policy making decisions taken by the government and later I myself was taking many decisions. Being part and parcel of the government it was difficult to be always objective in my writing. Thus to a reader this writing may appear to be more subjective than objective. When a not so known person like me writes something, a reader asks three questions 'Who? Why? And What?' Contemporary history is often biased if not distorted. Yet I genuinely feel that anyone who has something of history to tell should do so for the sake of posterity. After some years when our present generation is gone and mostly forgotten, the historians will carry out research and dig out from all such writings the true events of the country. Some historian defined history as, 'An accord of the past, to compare our present and to shape the future'. Accordingly it is the solemn responsibility for all of us to present history in its correct perspective._x000D_ _x000D_ I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Towheed bin Muzaffar, a faculty member of the Language Centre of the Independent University of Bangladesh, for taking painstaking effort to edit the manuscript and my cousin Mofidul Hoque, for venturing publication of this manuscript._x000D_ Nurul Huq
