Midnight Locomotive and other Poems

In the 1970s, Shahabuddin Nagari emerged in the scene of Bengali poetry with a distinctive voice. His poetry faithfully captures his inner feelings and reminds Robert Frost's famous saying that "All poetry is a reproduction of the tones of actual speech".This volume contains 86 poems written between 1999 and 2009. They range from very emotive self-reflection to passionate response to social issues. However, romantic love predominates; and pangs of separation outweigh the jo of union. Although written in free flowing verses, without a couching in any particular rhyming scheme, his inclination for lyricism is obvious and occasionally reminds of twelfth century Troubadour poems. Celebration of love, longing and disappointment produces lasting impression on the readers' mind. Imagery he uses not only constitutes a surrealist experience but also affirms a stylized poetic diction whereby personal feelings are transformed into poetry for others.
