Though the writer was born and brought up in urban environment, his parents hailed from an isolated rural island called Sandwip of Chittagong. In connection with father's transferabale government job, the writer lived in different district towns in the early life. He introduces his parents, siblings, and foreparents. He recounts how he enjoyed visits to village and home at village in Sandwep. It depicts how poverty, epidemics, diseases and scientific and technological backwardness used to play with and impact lives of people in those days. Memory bridges past and present. The writer has tried to watch the sunrise from the fringe of twilight through prism of memory to discover different colours bestrewed from the ever-running wheel of life. He has also written about how he saw politics to evolve and culminate into emergence of independent and sovereign Bangladesh through a nine month long War of Liberation. At different places of the book, the writer has narrated certain facts with such romance and taste of fiction that may provide a good deal of entertainment to readers.

কাজী হাবিবুল আউয়াল জন্ম ১৯৫৫ সালে কুমিল্লা শহরে পিতার কর্মস্থলে। গ্রামের বাড়ি চট্টগ্রাম জেলার সন্দ্বীপ উপজেলায় হলেও নগর জীবনেই তাঁর বেড়ে ওঠা। খুলনার সেন্ট জোসেফ'স হাইস্কুল থেকে ১৯৭২ সালে এস.এস.সি., ঢাকা কলেজ থেকে ১৯৭৪ সালে এইচ.এস.সি., অতঃপর ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ১৯৭৮ সালে আইনশাস্ত্রে এলএল.বি (সম্মান) ও ১৯৮০ সালে এলএল.এম করেন। ১৯৮০/১৯৮১ সালে কিছুকাল আইন পেশায় ছিলেন। ১৯৮১ সালে তিনি বিচার কর্মবিভাগে মুন্সেফ (সহকারী জজ) পদে যোগদান করে জেলা ও দায়রা জজসহ বিভিন্ন পদে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন । কাজী হাবিবুল আউয়াল আইন কমিশনের সচিব ও শ্রম আদালতের চেয়ারম্যান পদেও দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। আইন, বিচার ও সংসদ-বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় এবং ধর্ম-বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব পদে এবং প্রতিরক্ষা মন্ত্রণালয়ের সচিব ও সিনিয়র সচিব পদে দায়িত্ব পালন শেষে ২০১৬ সালের ৩১ ডিসেম্বর তারিখে তিনি সরকারি চাকরি থেকে অবসর গ্রহণ করেন । অবসর গ্রহণের পর কাজী হাবিবুল আউয়াল একটি ফার্মাসিউটিক্যাল কোম্পানিতে আইন উপদেষ্টা পদে কাজ করে আসছিলেন। সালিশ ও আন্তর্জাতিক পরামর্শক হিসেবেও তিনি কাজ করেছেন। ২০২২ সালের ২৭ ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে তিনি প্রধান নির্বাচন কমিশনারের পদে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন। সরকারি কার্যব্যাপদেশে তিনি বিভিন্ন দেশ ভ্রমণ করেছেন। সাহানা আক্তার খানমের সাথে পরিণয় সূত্রে আবদ্ধ লেখকের তিন কন্যা ও চার নাতি-নাতনি রয়েছে।
